The event is a series of coastal rowing races held in the sea between 20 and 80 metres off the beach. Races are held in 1, 2 or 4 person Coastal Rowing boats designed specifically for this type of event. Competitors are between 12 and 60 years of age.

20 races (dependent on entries and the requirements to add or remove heats) will take place throughout the day. Races are held over a 2000m course. From a stationary start up to a maximum of 12 boats race towards a pre-set line of 12 buoy markers, spaced 20m apart perpendicular to the beach at a distance of 1km from the start/finish line. At these buoys boats execute a turn and race the 1km back to the start/finish line.
